Constructed throughout of thick boards, the front and rear boards projecting slightly beyond the ends, the strap-hinged lid and front each with triple-linear framed border, roundel carved corners and dentil-carved ends, the sides descending to V-shaped cutaway supports with crossed saw marks to the apex, good colour and patina throughout
Carved roundels are a popular motif in South Wales regional furniture, see Richard Bebb, 'Welsh Furniture 1250-1950', Vol I, p.146 & p.295, although principally on 17th century examples. The crossed saw marks to the cut apex of each end board and the dentil-carved decoration (normally chip-carved) to the front board is more commonly associated with West Country furniture
