The sheet brass cresting and backplate embossed with stars and bosses, with punched highlights including hearts, all between a pair of cast brass knopped pillars, the rectangular pan fitted with a pair of wrapped candle sockets fixed to the pan with tabs and copper rivets, (2)

Literature: A similar twin-candleholder wall-sconce, dated 1712, is illustrated R. Gentle & R. Feild, 'Domestic Metalwork 1640-1820' (1994), p. 199, fig. 7 and attributed to England. However, it is now generally agreed that this type of wall sconce is Dutch
