A rare pair of Elizabeth I carved oak mythical beasts, circa 1590

Male and female, each upright, the male with right hind leg raised, and both with forepaws supporting a leafy-scrolling cartouche, with imaginatively carved long tufted tails, flowing manes, flaring nostrils and baring razor-sharp teeth.
