Designed with a double-headed eagle, with chip-carved feather detail, a leafy spray issuing from each beak, mounted, overall dimensions height 38.4cm, width 27cm
The City of Salisbury coat of arms has double-headed eagle supporters. Their design is clearly shown on the back panels of two open armchairs, in the King's House Museum Salisbury, one an Elizabethan example dated 1585, the other Jacobean dated 1622. Both chairs illustrated Victor Chinnery, 'Oak Furniture: The British Tradition' (2016), p.404
