Each flared socket with a removable bronze alloy drip pan, above a bronze alloy drip tray and discoid centred stem, on a domed and ribbed base, with bronze alloy rim and three bronze alloy squat bun feet, each drip pan engraved 'Oak and Bell Metal of York Minster burnt May 20 1840', (2)

Literature: 'The Fires of York Minster' (Pitkin Pictorials Ltd, 1985) describes how the fire was started by a stray workman's candle left in the chamber beneath the bells on the evening of 20 May 1840, and the events which unfolded to bring the fire under control. Unfortunately this was the second fire in just over a decade at York Minster.
