Probably part of a grand staircase, a part newel-post capital, of urn-form, having a gadrooned and bell-flower carved rim, over fruit and flower-carved reserves, spaced by tied ribbons, acanthus-carved base, base diameter 20.5cm.
Comparable urns, with tied ribbons and carved fruit (and filled with carved flowers) can be seen on 'The Great Staircase', Forde Abbey, Somerset.
